Sullivan Craft Fair.

Fall has really arrived around here..the trees are so beautiful with their fall colours, esp. on the days when we are lucky enough to have sunshine!  I have been busy organizing stock for the upcoming Sullivan Craft Fair, which is happening next Sunday November 6, 10 am – 4 pm, at Sullivan Hall, 152nd Street & 64th Avenue in Surrey. I am planning out lots of great deals, at unbelievable prices! It will be a “cash only” event, so please plan accordingly.  Contact me if there is anything specific you would like me to bring to the fair.  As mentioned in previous blogs, I do still have a large stock of DMC thread; unfortunately, I can’t bring all of that to a craft fair. Upon request, I can send out a list of remaining stock to you and you can let me know if there is anything you need.

There is a new chart available in the ‘Native Animal’ series from Sue Coleman.  Native Eagle is stitched on either 32 count Dark Chocolate or Antique White.  Copies of this chart with matching fabric will be available for sale next Sunday, at Sullivan Hall, and of course you can order it online anytime.

If you can’t make it to the craft fair this weekend, I will also be attending the ‘Christmas in Cloverdale’ market, which is happening on Dec 2 & 3.  I will send out information regarding that event at the end of the month.

Hope to see you at one of the fairs!  Happy November!

Where does the time go..?

It has been a busy summer – lots of baseball (even during those rainy months..)Besides our league games, which take us to the interior and the island, we traveled to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho for a tournament, and finished the season off in early August with Provincials in Kamloops.  Now it is off to fall ball…

With the gorgeous weather we have been having, it is hard to believe fall and Christmas are around the corner!  At this time of year, there is always that certain ‘itch’ to start a new project for the upcoming season. However, I still have to finish the stocking for my oldest son that has been (quite a few) years in the making.  For the past couple of Christmases it has been ‘hanging’ up, with lots of pins and just for decoration, so this year it should definitely be number one on the list to finish!  It would be nice to get it done before he moves out….he will be in Grade 12 this year.

I have been busy the past few months since my last blog, sorting out fabric and books and posting a lot of them on the website.  There are some Christmas specials posted, with more to come real soon, mostly Christmas afghans and tablecloths.  Start now, and you will get a lot done by the time December rolls around!

Also, I try to make the site as easy to navigate as possible, and make changes from time to time, which don’t always work out.  Just the other day, I decided to change the fabric listings and just add in the colour name, since it already has a heading of which fabric you are choosing from.  No sooner was all that completed, an order came in and showed me why I had it like that to begin with.  The order only showed the colour and size, not the type of fabric.  Oops, that did not work, so I changed it again and now just put in the count behind the colour name.  It is a trial and error process sometimes – please let me know any time if something on our site or in the web-store needs ‘help’…

There are now new categories for Halloween books as well as Christmas books, under the ‘cross stitch charts’ heading.  Now you can see all the books in these categories under one heading.

The Stitching Studio has published a new Sue Coleman chart in the ‘Native Animals’ series Native Raven is now available! The previous chart, ‘Native Bear’( aka Black Bear), has been selling very well.  There are a few more to come in the series – these were t-shirt designs and they are trying to stitch them on the original colour as well as on antique white so you get a vision of what both look like. Get a head-start on the series today!

Keep checking back to the site for updates on fabrics and books.  Also, I still have DMC & Anchor Floss, as well as wool in stock and a large selection of pearl cotton in #5, 8 & 12.  Email for details.

A new chart arrives…

Since my first blog, I have had to learn a lot about how all this works. Any new program is always a great learning curve, and I am no computer ‘expert’ by any means.  The program is set up to email all our customers the minute a new blog appears.  Well, never assume anything; after a few days of playing with different things and reading up on lots of different scenario’s, it turned out less than half the customers actually received the email.  (Sorry!) So, we paired up with a new mail provider and are keeping our fingers crossed it will work this time!  In the midst of all this, a new Sue Coleman chart arrived!  Cougar Kitten is the latest chart produced by the Stitching Studio and it is so cute!  I love the Kitten and the Butterfly playing together.

I have also been busy adding product to the store.  All remaining Petit Point charts are now listed; charts are of limited quantity and, as some of you avid petit pointers will know, most of these charts are no longer available.  Snap them up while you can! (No backstitching!)

Furthermore, all Just Nan charts in stock have also been added to the web store, as well as more 16 count Aida fabric, and table toppers from Rico and Zweigart, including the pattern books. I will be adding more Zweigart fabric, such as Hardanger in the next few weeks, so stay tuned…

I do get a lot of people asking for wool and floss; at the present time, there are no plans to sell them in the web store.  I do, however, have a large amount of DMC & Anchor floss and wool as well as DMC pearl cotton in stock; they are for sale at discounted prices.  Please send me an email with your requirements and I will  try to set you up!

Another slight change has been that all the items in the store are now in alphabetical order! It suddenly dawned on me that everything was all mixed up and I figured alphabetical would be the best way to go.  If you have any suggestions or comments on the store, please let me know.  I want to keep the store as easy to navigate as possible.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

My first blog..

This is so exciting – my first blog! The past year has been a year of many changes; the store closing and then going full-time on the web.  Thanks to you, our loyal customer, the website has been well-received and well-used.  We have been making changes to the site, added more merchandise and now the blog.  I have missed ‘talking’ to you, our customer, via the newsletter we always sent out.  Now, with the new blog, we can continue our relationship and you can comment back to me as well.  Now that there are no more models to be stitched for the store, I have gone back and actually finished a project that I had been working on for 5 years! Yes, I am embarrassed to say it took me that long to finish one cross stitch, but the end result was fantastic.  My brother collects cars from the ’60′s -’70′s era and I managed to get a picture of his favorite car, a red 1970 Chevelle.  Gerry from the Stitching Studio did a phenomenal job in converting this picture into a cross stitch chart and to finish it off, Jeanette at Janell’s Framing did a superb job in framing this picture! Such team work – to top it off, my brother was surprised, almost speechless, and called me the next day to thank me again.  He thought it was a painting! That was worth all the years of stitching (and occasionally swearing at) this project!

My 5 year project.

When I picked up my picture from Janell’s framing, Jeanette showed me the Sue Coleman ‘Totempole’ series (Bear Cub, Eagle Chicks & Wolf Pup) she stitched in 2010 and I have to share a  picture with you.  The series looked absolutely beautiful with the mats and the frames.  It is always so nice to see a finished project nicely framed and on the wall.  This is why we love what we do – the end result is so rewarding plus you can enjoy your work for years to come.

As the snow continues to fall, I am getting ready for a nice afternoon of stitching with a hot cup of tea!
